After a brief introduction & a meet-and-greet session with our farm chickens, dogs, cats, and sheep, your cacao tour begins in the lush tropical forest adjacent to our farm house. Keep your eyes peeled for elusive three-toed sloths in the trees above!
Your hosts will give you a hands-on description of the lifecycle of the cacao plant and the features of the cacao fruit. You’ll witness first hand the unique way the cacao flower grows directly from the trunk of the cacao tree, and how this flower eventually produces a baby cacao pod. You’ll then discover how to differentiate between the many species of cacao by color and shape, and understand how each species produces its own unique flavor and quality of chocolate.
We’ll help you to spot sloths, monkeys, caymans, toucans & other birds while we harvest fresh cacao pods for you to taste. We'll then make our way to our chocolate tasting room where you'll get to try our artisanally fermented & roasted cacao beans, as well as some of our fresh, made from scratch, chocolate bonbons in dark or milk chocolate.
